In 2015, a group of friends started inviting local artists to perform in restaurants. In three evenings, we welcomed 240 guests, hired a total of eight artists, and increased menu sales 25%. We know, in places where food and music come together, there is a crossover of the culinary and performing arts that is robust, emotional, and intimate. Manifested in restaurants, bistros, pubs, and bars, this culture has a unique footprint in local economies, creates the third places that anchor neighborhoods, and fosters shared experiences people carry with them for a lifetime.
